This classic single peaked at number 2 in 1994 was beaten to the top spot by "Stay Another Day" by East 17.



Rockin' around the Christmas Tree - Brenda Lee


Released in 1965 and peaking at number 3 it was beaten to number 1 by "Day Tripper" by the Beatles.



Fairytale of New York - The Pogues feat Kirsty MacColl


How many times is this song played over the holiday season? Well you may be surprised to hear that it only reached 2  in 1987 and was beaten by "Always on my mind" by the Pet Shop Boys.



I wish it could be Christmas everyday - Wizzard


Although the mere mention of the title of this song can send the lyrics rattling around your head for hours, this favourite only ever reached number 4 in 1973. The top spot that year was taken by another classic "Merry Xmas Everybody" by Slade.



Last Christmas - Wham


Reaching only number 2 in 1984 Last Christmas was only kept off the top spot by another single that George Michael also sang on  Band Aid the biggest Christmas Number one of the decade.
